WV Dream Home: Huntington, WV

Even though I currently have no intention of buying a house, I love to browse the internet for houses for sale in West Virginia. The homes I feature here are ones that I've come across that I truly love.

 

1684 Wiltshire Blvd, Huntington, WV 25701

This lovely Cape Cod-inspired house is located in the Southeast Hills section of Huntington and has four bedrooms, two full baths, and a detached garage. It does have a fenced in backyard for those with small children and/or pets. The yard runs a bit on the small side, which is always nice for those not wanting to deal with the time it would take to maintain a larger yard. 

I like this house for many reasons, but the two that rank the highest is its location and its size. Most of the homes built in this area were built in the late 1930s-1950s. These houses may seem small from the sidewalk, but when you walk in there's quite a bit more space than you realize. I think this home in particular could satisfy a majority of home shoppers. It's big enough for young families to grow into and it's also small enough for the recently retired looking for something to downsize into. 

Location is also very important with this house. It's located so wonderfully that it's less than a 10 minute drive to the nearest elementary/middle/high school, grocery store, hospital, I-64 access, and so much more. The neighborhood is extremely safe and is the type where the kids play together after school and where you actually know your neighbors.

Did I also mention that the house has a lot of updates? That includes everything from new kitchen floors to new storm windows to update bathrooms and kitchen appliances. 

This house has a lot going for it, and at the very decent price of $104,500 it's going to go pretty fast.

Private Schools: St. Joseph (Catholic, K-12), Our Lady of Fatima (Catholic, K-8), Covenant (Christian, K-12), Grace Christian (Christian, K-12)

Nearest Hospital: Cabell Huntington, 0.5 miles

Nearest Grocery Store: Kroger's on West 7th Ave, 3 miles
There is also another Kroger's on 8th Ave (3.6 miles away) that is much larger and offers one of the largest sections of organic foods and other assorted organic products in town.

I-64 Access: the exit is about 4-5 miles away. Commuting? Charleston is 50 miles away, and Ashland, Kentucky is 20 miles away.

Airport: Huntington/Ashland Airport (HTS) is 13.5 miles and offers daily flights to a hub in Charlotte via US Airways and a few flights to Florida via Allegiant Air (check their website for more information as the flight offerings are seasonal). Yeager Airport is located 50 miles away in Charleston with US Airways, Delta, United, American, and Spirit airlines.

As a fashion blogger, I've always encouraged emails should anyone have questions. I've always thought that if one person has a questions, then others probably have the same question. 

Surprisingly, what's the subject I get the most email questions about?

 People trying to find places to live in West Virginia.

I have received many emails from people sending me the listing to a house or apartment building and wanting my opinion on the schools in the area, is it safe to walk the dog around the block after dark, etc. Obviously most of these people are coming from out of state and often wanted another opinion outside of their realtor's.

I do know a bit about homes. I worked in the construction industry for over four years and have estimated my fair share of materials for someone's dream home. I'm no stranger around a construction site and can mix Quikrete with the best of 'em. I count plumbing as one of my talents.

How many other fashion bloggers can say they have their own miter saw?

When I started my fashion blog West Virginia Fashion (then The Mountaineer Fashionologist, you can see why I changed the name), friends, family, & coworkers had encouraged me to add posts about home decor, gardening, etc. I didn't because I wanted to focus solely on style and beauty in West Virginia.

Many of my friends have started to buy homes or are facing their first major home improvement project and now they want my advice and suggestions--along with my miter saw and I making an appearance.  At their request I've decided to put said advice and suggestions onto the interwebs so that I don't have to keep repeating myself.

For the present, posts will be on Tuesdays with possible expansion later on.
